“At the April 13 meeting of the RCSD Board of Education, board president Cynthia Elliott characterized Rochester teachers in a vulgar and demeaning way. She also blamed Rochester teachers for the increase of crime on our streets. Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small sat right next to her and said nothing. Now, three weeks later, she sent an open letter siding with the school board’s president’s unwarranted and offensive remarks and suggested that we embrace her ‘feedback.’
Disappointingly, Cynthia Elliott’s remarks and Lesli Myers-Small’s letter represent a clear confirmation that, in our district, disrespect and contempt for teachers springs from the top.”
