Colleagues,
I am pleased to inform you that our sister teacher unions in Monroe County announced their support for postponing plans for reopening schools for in-person learning until it can be ensured that all safety concerns are appropriately addressed. The Monroe County Federation of Teachers (MCFT) released a press statement and two resolutions earlier today (see attached). The MCFT is comprised of unions representing educators in more than 20 K-12 school districts, Monroe Community College, SUNY Brockport, and Rochester School for the Deaf. The teacher unions in Syracuse and Buffalo, among others, are now also considering a similar position.
As I indicated in yesterday’s update, we are in communication with Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small and remain determined to reach agreement on the safest way to resume instruction in September. We will keep you informed about the progress in these discussions and in all our efforts on behalf of Rochester teachers and students.
