Colleagues,

You  have just received a communication from Superintendent Myers-Small about the District’s plan to gradually transition to a hybrid model of instruction. Like you, we have had no advance indication that such a plan was being advanced and regretfully, like you, we’ve learned about it through the media.

While we do not yet know the specifics and details of the District’s plan, we will seek that information immediately and will communicate it to you. Whether we can support the District’s plan will depend on whether the school environment and conditions can be made safe for all and whether proper accommodations can be made for teachers with underlying health conditions. Like parents and students, we know that teachers also want to return to in-person instruction but only if it’s safe.

On another note, most teachers have received their retroactive pay in today’s paycheck. If you have any questions or concerns about the accuracy of your retroactive pay, or about any other related aspect of it, please email RTA’s Martha Keating <maskerade6@aol.com>. And please remember that the amount  of the retroactive pay is only the difference between the increment already paid and the benchmarked raise for the 2019-2020 school year. It is not the same amount for everybody. Our lawsuit seeking interest on that money, for the entire period of delay, continues and will not be withdrawn.

More details on these and other topics soon. Meanwhile, have a safe and restful weekend.

Adam Urbanski, RTA President
