Colleagues,

The District notified us just yesterday that the scheduled retroactive pay to teachers will not be in tomorrow’s paycheck. They are now planning to have it included in the November 6 paycheck but even this won’t be confirmed until October 27th. The money represents the difference between the benchmarking level negotiated on June 11, 2020, and the salary increments level that the teachers did receive for the entire 2019-2020 school year. The benchmarked difference was negotiated to be retroactive to July 1, 2019.

Like you, we are very frustrated with the District’s inability to perform this task and that they have not even bothered to communicate with teachers about the delays. The delays have lasted for more than four months and the District offered no plausible explanation. That is why we have filed a lawsuit against the District seeking interest on that money for the entire period of delay.

I know that many teachers were counting on receiving this negotiated adjustment in a timely manner and are disappointed by the District’s incompetence. I am confident that, just as we have in our advocacy on your behalf so many times in the past, we will prevail in court against the District on this matter too.
