Colleagues,

I am glad that the District rescinded yesterday’s directive to require a CPI (Certificate of Personal Illness) for absences tomorrow. We intend to engage in conversations with the District to improve this process for the future.

Thank you for your solidarity, continued confidence in your union, and especially for all you do every day for our students.

A Message from the Office of Human Capital

It has come to our attention that there are many employees who are pre-approved for absence tomorrow. In light of this and some other concerns, we are officially rescinding the implementation of the CPI scheduled for this Friday, April 17, 2026, to facilitate a robust and collaborative dialogue with our labor partners. The District is committed to ensuring that our next steps are informed by collaborative discussion, and we will provide a comprehensive update as those conversations progress. The current CPI for tomorrow is rescinded.

Chris

A Message from the Office of Human Capital

Dear Staff,

In accordance with the Superintendent’s authority, please be advised that any absence due to personal illness occurring on Friday, April 17, 2026, will require a Certificate of Personal Illness (CPI).

To be considered an excused absence, the CPI must be signed by your physician and include the following:

  • An explanation of the nature of the illness.
  • The specific date(s) of treatment.
  • A formal release to return to work.

For your convenience, a form CPI document is attached to this email.

This requirement is being implemented at the Superintendent’s discretion in response to the high volume of illness-related absences on Superintendent Conference Days. Documentation should be submitted to the Benefits Department upon your return to work. This can be provided in the following ways:

  • Email to Benefits@rcsdk12.org
  • Fax to 585-295-2614
  • Scanned using “Scan to Benefits” feature on all District scanners.

If you have any questions, please contact your supervisor.

Thank you,

Chris
