The Rochester Teachers Association, through its Scholarship Committee, awards scholarships to needy and deserving college-bound students. Final selections will be based upon academic achievement, financial need, character and leadership ability.
This year the RTA will award four (4) scholarships of $1000 each to seniors graduating from Rochester Public High Schools. Any student who will graduate in June and plans to continue his/her education (college, university, junior college, community college, business school, etc.) is eligible. Candidates must have an overall academic average of 80% or better. The scholarships are:
- Peter Castle Memorial Scholarship – the general scholarship that all RCSD students are eligible to apply for.
- Scott Spino Teaching Scholarship – offered to RCSD students planning to pursue a career in teaching.
- Gordon Dorway Science Award – offered to RCSD students planning to pursue a career in science.
- Ken Silvio Technology Scholarship – offered to RCSD students planning to pursue a career in Technology or Technology in Teaching.
The fifth scholarship of $1000 will be offered to a high school senior who is the son or daughter of an RTA member in good standing. The son or daughter of a deceased RTA member may also qualify for this scholarship. This applicant does not have to be an RCSD student.
The awards of $1000 will be given in two installments: first, $500 upon receipt of proof of registration; second, $500 upon receipt of first-semester grade point average of no less than 3.0.
The final selection of winners will be made by the RTA Scholarship Committee. Selection will be based on criteria set by the Representative Assembly for each category. Counselors will soon receive multiple copies of the applications. Additional copies are available at the RTA office. All applications must be postmarked no later than April 13, 2022.
The scholarship application for the son or daughter of an RTA member is available by clicking here or by calling the RTA office (546-2681).
