Colleagues, I am pleased to inform you that our sister teacher unions in Monroe County announced their support for postponing plans for reopening schools for in-person learning until it can be ensured that all safety concerns are appropriately addressed. The Monroe County Federation of Teachers (MCFT) released a press statement and two resolutions earlier today (see attached).The MCFT is comprised of unions representing educators in more than 20 K-12 school districts, Monroe Community College, SUNY Brockport, and Rochester School for the Deaf. The teacher unions in Syracuse and Buffalo, among others, are now also considering a similar position. As I indicated in yesterday’s update, we are in communication with Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small and remain determined to reach agreement on the safest way to resume instruction in September.
