Colleagues,
With help from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), our national and state unions, there will be a special telephone town hall for all RTA members and members of the Rochester Association of Paraprofessionals (RAP). The Telephone Town Hall will be tomorrow (Tuesday, April 7th) at 4pm. The purpose of the call is to inform you about our ongoing efforts to fight for the needs of our students, their educators and their schools. Our shared goal is to prepare for the challenges ahead during these turbulent and challenging times.
In addition to our local updates, I am pleased to announce that, among others, AFT President Randi Weingarten and NYSUT President Andrew Pallotta will join us on the call to provide the national and state context and to discuss how they are supporting us in this fight to Fund Our Future. NYSUT’s Director of Legislation, Alithia Rodriguez-Rolon, will provide a critical and most recent update on the NYS budget and its direct impact on funding for the Rochester City School District. You will also learn more about our joint efforts and partnership with the Rochester Community Coalition to Save Our Schools (ROC-SOS).
I urge you to join this very important Telephone Town Hall, from any phone, by calling 1-800-216-0117 just before 4pm tomorrow. You will be in listen mode only until and unless you are unmuted to make a comment or ask a question. We will reserve as much time as possible for questions and comments.
This is our first attempt in Rochester at an all-members telephone town hall. And it couldn’t be more timely or more needed. I am confident that it can contribute to increased communication, greater participation and even stronger solidarity among all our members.
Stay safe, stay strong and stay home. “See” you on the call tomorrow.
Adam Urbanski, RTA President
