Whereas, the Superintendent of RCSD schools recommended the ill-conceived strategy to make mid-year teacher cuts, and
Whereas, the RCSD ignored the pleas of students, parents, community members and teachers urging them to delay mid-year cuts, and
Whereas, the RCSD has not made cuts in the District’s bureaucracy and, in fact, has continued to add administrators since laying off teachers, and
Whereas, the RCSD Board of Education approved the disastrous mid-year cuts, and
Whereas, such mid-year teacher layoffs and displacements have caused inordinate disruptions to students and their teachers, and
Whereas, neither students nor their teachers caused the RCSD’s fiscal woes, be it therefore,
Resolved, that the RTA Representative Assembly strongly denounces the District’s decision to make the mid-year cuts, and be it further
Resolved, that the RTA Representative Assembly calls on the RCSD to immediately rescind all mid-year teacher layoffs and to restore services to our students, and be it further
Resolved, that the RCSD make cuts, if needed, far away from the students – as promised by the Superintendent of Schools, and be it finally
Resolved, that the RCSD join the RTA, NYSUT, and community groups in lobbying more aggressively for additional financial resources to avoid layoffs of teachers and to avert further diminishing resources for our students.
